Rest Easy and Run to Jesus

The Westminster Catechism states that the chief end of man is "to glorify God and to enjoy Him forever." I personally think this is true. God created human beings for relationship with Himself; it was only after the fall that things got tricky.

"When the cool evening breezes were blowing, the man and his wife heard the LORD God walking about in the garden. So they hid from the LORD God among the trees." Genesis 3:8

Ultimately, sin caused us to hide from the very One who wants us. The curse has gone on in different ways, but one thing remains: it is difficult for us to face God with joy. The nagging doubt that He is angry with us has echoed from Adam and Eve's hearts to yours and mine. We went from walking confidently in a paradise to cowering under bushes. The fall had its own specific judgements, but the one that sticks out to me is this. We are terrified of being rejected for who we are and what we have done.

If our chief end is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever, then it only stands to reason that God desires to give us every opportunity to do so. The Creator of the universe is still calling to us from the cool of the evening...Still searching for our hearts as we hide in the shrubs.

As we repent of our sins, lay them at the alter and move on, let us also remember: Jesus did not die for us because He hated us, but because He wanted to bridge the gap that our sin, that fall had caused.

His death and resurrection are His evermore statement, echoing from Eden down to our modern world, saying, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." Matthew 11:28-30

Rest easy, dear heart. He created you to enjoy Him!
